1.       You took English Literature during your degree, what are the books that you studied? Tell me about it. Gimme a famous quotation from the book. - i answered Hamlet haha, and then she asked about poems by Robert Frost - harus chek xhengat, pastu dg konfiden kata The Road Not Taken haha sepbek btoi, then she asked a line from the poem tp harus aku xingat jugak so i just explained about the essence of the poem. terasa intebiu utk jadi lecturer eng lit ok

2.       Why do we celebrate the 16 September? -- malunya tak tauuuuu

3.       Since you work at a library, what is the book that you are reading right now? - citation for harvard referencing hahaha sebab kena mngajar benda tuh. pastu dia xmo contoh tu dia suruh bg contoh lain.

Wakil Kastam:

1.       Bagaimana anda membuat persediaan untuk temuduga ini? Apa sumber rujukan anda?

a.       Me: media social, berbincang dengan rakan2 & ahli keluarga…

2.       Apa tugas kastam? – siapa kutip cukai langsung?

a.       Klasifikasi jenis cukai, kawalselia penumpang di pelabuhan, lapangan, kutip cukai tak langsung, -- LHDN

3.       Semua ke syarikat kena daftar GST ni? Dhtu siapa je? Kalau syarikat yg kecil2 tu, apa yg mereka dapat kalau daftar GST?

4.       Berapa cukai perkhidmatan contoh mkn kt kfc? So lepas ni berapa? Gov tax dengan service tax tu, yg mana kastam kutip? 

5.       Penting ke bagi pengguna untuk semak resit cukai jualan?

interview for librarian post: IIUM interview reflection

last tuesday, i went to an interview for another librarian position at IIUM. at first, i thought it was odd that the interview would start at 5pm --- who would arrange an interview at such time, right? --- but actually it was not a wonder then, as the process for each candidate took not more than 10mins. fast and furious, eh. as the third candidate, mine finished at 5.16pm (the first one was called at 4.50pm). so pastu apa lagi pi minum la kan (dinner sbnrnye), with ajim and sarah; as well as umi and syida (also candidates for the vacancy...fuuuu very the competition)

anyway, here're the questions:
-- describe about yourself
(i've learnt to tell only a little about self, and more on tertiary education background and related job experiences)

-- what library system that u're familiar with
(err...UIA's Sirsi Dynix, as a user of course...and KOHA, an independent system used at the resource center which i've work for previously..err not much lorrrr huhuhu)

---which department do u want to work at
(with lack of experience, i would accept any position or department, because i want to learn everything...bla bla cant remember the rest)

overall reflection:
with several other experienced candidates, it's a slim chance for me i think. hmmm....



mood: gloomy.
reason:
librarian vacancy at UUM, and God knows w.h.y they ask to get the form from the counter there (payment: RM5) or send them stamped envelope (RM1) and they'll post it home. hello IT department? hello website enhancer? orang dah pakai web 2.0 dorg still ber pos2 camtu lagi.

but thats not the reason for my state of mood actually. it's just that, a close friend who lives nearer to UUM already took the form . i jokingly asked her why didnt she get a form for me too (we're classmates, both are still job hunting) and she jokingly answered " [kalau aku amek utk ang] cari pasai ttp lubang aku..UUM tu hutan kot, xsesuai ngan hang.haha"

it's a joke, but i think she meant it :-(

interview for librarian post: questions to ponder on

here are some questions that I remember from the interview with the UM last two weeks. starting with the one that brought the most stinging effect to me

question: why don't you further your Phd? you can become a lecturer
what i answered: i feel that i dont have the expertise to focus on in writing the theses, so i'm not confident in doing it yet
responded question: u're giving me the impression that once we've given u the training, u'll do your PhD and leave the the library to become a lecturer
me: (fcuk. why did i say that before)...em, actually i'm not interested in teaching, thats why i chose MLIS and not MAESL....

(why why why did i respond with this! i shoud have said stm like: completing a doctoral degree doesnt solely mean that u want to be a lecturer; it is one of the ways to become an expert in certain fields. wouldnt it be a benefit to the institution itself if they have an expert in a particular area? i could become an asset to this library instead)

question: have you ever been to the libraries in any other countries? if you're given enough revenue, what radical changes that you can do to your library
me: change the appearance, upgrade the environment...like having a mini garden in the library, as well as great toilets (yup, i've SAID this. uhhh)

question: what do you think of opening the library 24h? give pros and cons
me: quite ok, it's good especially for those who're doing a research

question: these days, people rely so much on the internet as their first source of information. how can you attract people to come to the library and retain them there
me: i can say there're 2 approaches to this. 1) if we cannot physically pull them to the library, we go to them; that is by developing a virtual library. 2) by being able to provide all materials and assistance needed by the students, like having liaison librarians who really really are an expert in that field and would be able to guide students from A to Z in their study and information retrieval. (duh... if only my words were as organized as this)

question: if there's only 1 vacancy, why should we hire you and not the other persons
me: (I REALLY HATE THIS QUESTION. dont u know how hopeless i m in boosting myself?) err..i'm a very curious person, (....yeah, like, THAT is your most valuable trait ke rubi oiiii) so i'll be willing to learn new things...bla bla...comfortable to work individually and in team...bla bla...


overall thought:

i was clumsy in the interview, there were three candidates with experiences there, so i wouldnt put much hope then. huhuhu

of Kenduri and Interview

1)Kenduri Menyambut Tetamu Menantu

last week was my dearest cousin's wedding and tonight, all of us are heading to Pasir Gudang Johor at 8pm for her "welcoming-the-daughter-in-law ceremony" (seswai tak kehkehkeh). the wedding is on Saturday = tomorrow; can u imagine: we'll depart by 8pm (HOPEFULLY. no delay please) and it's Permatang Pauh Penang - Pasir Gudang Johor kutub utara kutub selatan sungguh! so, 12h journey is expected. 12hours ladies and gents...and straight to the wedding.

oh my tulang belakang....huaaaa...

and oh, by 'all of us', i meant a 'busfull' of us. hey, it's the first daughter and we're pretty excited then. untunglah kan sapa2 first child yang kawen in a family, semua org beriye gitew

2)UM interview
neves neves neves

apparently i passed the UM Aptitude Test the other day (know no aptitude test eh? click HERE to read my rant about it). so, the next phase is the interview la kan.

it's supposed to be on last two weeks, but one of the candidates had to emcee for a national library thingy conference (the reason he emailed to all of us other candidates telling his activity is a mystery - to intimidate ke?). so, it's postponed to next Monday 4th June. as usual - no idea what to prepare, how to act - i mean, the reason why i didnt pass any of the librarian post interviews should be my lack of interview/personality-boost skills, right. right? oh oh oh i'm so so nervous....i badly need the job. 6 months without real permanent job feels like s*** like, like, a minion, a loser. i didnt spent the two years of my life to end up like this:- therefore precious Master scroll, thou better work the magic OK

so please God, if this job is truly my fate: please clear the path for me. make them see the capable hardworking industrious diligent dynamic charming side of me Amiiiin

test lagi

sekarang ni trend akan melalui first test dulu ek sebelum interview? hayo keringle poket gue...kena dtg buat test tu, pastu kalau pass baru pi interbiu. 2 kali kerja & sgt sgt merugikan diriku yg kurang income ini. tu kalau pass test, kalau tak, tak ke lagi rugi.

btw, kemarin (atau semalam ikut standard KL) chek pi test kt midah...ala... Malaysian Investment Development Authority...chek panggey midah ja la no, mesra a'lam sket. chek pi utk post pustakawan s41.

tu la nk habaq ni...test tu mashaAllah...punya chek tidoq taklena makan taklalu mandi terlebih basah dok pikiaq apalaaa depa nak tanya. depa ada la suruh telaah website midah & isu semasa. nakhabaq bagi, pasai ekonomi. maka chek yang takdak economic background ni memanglah berasa amat sukar sekali.

malam sebelum pi test punyala xlena tidoq chek. ya la, dengan nakbaca nota tapi byknya nota la yang baca chek. tapi takpa chek tau nota tu redo. mesti nota tu kata dlm hati nota dia 'kesian budak ni, penat dia datang dari penang jauh tu. takpela bia aku jela yg studi pasai dia' (ok whatever)

pagi tu chek pi dgn matlamat..'takpala nati aku bulat jela yg MCQ tu'.sekali tau apa yg kuaq.. ha, ini dia. chek tulis dia punya gist ja sbb chek xhengat ayat penuh depa

ESSAY ok essay
section A = choose 1 topic, write about :
1. something about tak ingat
2. malaysia's potential in one of the services sectors (tourism, education, heatlh)
3. how to influence a company to invest in a manufacturing sector in malaysia (chose this one, xtaula cana)

section B = write all (one in BM)
1. peranan pustakawan yg bertanggungjwab dalam penyelenggaraan koleksi perpustakaan
2. how can Current Awareness  Service act as an enhanced service of a special library

kesimpulannya chek berserah saja nohhh. ada rezki kena panggey chek bersyukur alhamdulillah. takkena panggey kalu chek bengang gak a redo dgn ucapan 'rezki kita ada di mana2, tunggu masa dia saja tuhan nkbagi'

just want to note down that m having an interview this coming monday. itis @KUIS for the librarian position.

ok agak freak out sikit sbb xhengat which librarian position had i asked for aritu. wey dh 2 bln + kot anta appl. form tuh dorg xbg respons papepon. aku ni cananggg la kta KUIS kejam dhla x pnggil, x acknowledge pghantaran form plak tu. tut tut last week call xnyempat soh pi intebiu. xdn nk antaq surat panggilan katanya. EMM OKAY

so, insyaAllah this wud be the first ever interview regarding librarianship.

(wait a sec. dang i had one back in 2010 wth britsh council for librarian ASSISTANT but they rejected me. dhla ssh kne critical thinking nk isi form die tu, janji nkbgtau reasons knape xnk amek aku smp skg abok pon tadak)

ANYWAYS
this is my first time of applying for a permanent librarian post. sbb nk tegar kn, so kna beria sket. sket je, xsmp tahap poyo. beria in the sense that check institution bground objctvs achvmnts wants/needs (e.g. whch librrn vacancy) etc AND my credibility (i.e. all learnt theories&applications plus experiences too).

in which satu haram pon xstadi lg. mmg haram sbb dhlupa kot mende2 covered during my study dolu. tula byk sgt mkn asam. tapi kalo die tnya mende2 grammar OK gak sbb dan prektis 2 bln. ok xkaitan. u're not applying for cikgu position rubz
